Development of a dual-mode demand control ventilation strategy for indoor air quality control and energy saving
نویسندگان
چکیده
A dual-mode demand control ventilation strategy was established targeting at use in buildings where the number of occupants varies frequently. The 4rst contaminant chosen for sensor control is CO2 and the second is a non-occupant-related indoor pollutant which indicates the demand of fresh air to dilute the non-occupant-related indoor contaminants. Experiments were conducted to verify the performance of this control strategy. The experimental results showed that an acceptable indoor air quality could be obtained. More than 90% of the occupants thought that the indoor air quality was acceptable. Comparing with the original 4xed-rate ventilation control strategy, about 8.3–28.3% of the daily electrical energy could be saved. ? 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Energy saving potential and repercussions on indoor air quality of demand controlled residential ventilation strategies
Ventilation is ambiguously related to the energy saving rationale originating from the mitigation of global warming, the reaching of peak oil or health concerns related to fossil fuel burning. Since it makes up for about half of the energy consumption in well insulated buildings, it is an attractive target for energy saving measures. However, simply reducing ventilation rates has unwanted reper...

One of the most important methods of saving energy and providing indoor comfort conditions of buildings is the careful design of the façades. A “double skin glass façade” is optimally one of the best options that control the heat interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces. Two kinds of heating energy is usually transmitted through exterior envelope “conduction” and “radiation”. Double skin g...

Carbon-dioxide (CO2) based demand controlled ventilation (DCV) offers the potential for more energy efficient building ventilation compared with constant ventilation rates based on design occupancy. A number of questions related to CO2 DCV exist regarding energy benefits, optimal control strategies, and indoor air quality impacts for contaminants with source strengths that are independent of th...

Many investigations have recently been performed on return vent height and indicate that having 1.3 m distance from the floor is the optimized height for it. In this article, the effect of distance between opening diffuser and return vent on air quality, thermal comfort and energy saving was investigated. According to the results, by increasing the distance between opening and return vent up to...
